Adventure Vacations Fo Both Kids And Parents

Sunday, December 30th, 2007
Eric J. Slarkowski asked:

When you bring up the subject of vacation with your kids, there is usually one of two responses; either they want to go to Disneyland for the third time or they want to take an exotic trip that Indiana Jones would consider an adventure. You don’t want to take that repeat vacation; you want something different but also a vacation that is not stressful. As parents you have the task of figuring out what is best for the family while at the same time satisfying everyone’s dream vacation. Since children don’t have the experience or insight that you have, many times they don’t know what they will like. Trekking through the jungles of Thailand sounds fun and exciting to your child but you know that the first night of sleeping in a jungle will be the last.

Cartoons with cute, talking animals such as Lion King spark interest in your children for an African safari. Some parts of Africa should be avoided but many areas are family friendly and can provide an adventure without needing machetes or trekking through miles of dense jungle. You can even sleep comfortably under the stars if you are willing to spend more money for fully catered meals and tents that are far from basic.

Even though Africa is a big safari draw, you should also consider Central America for a nature adventure. Costa Rica and Belize provide an amazing array of flora and fauna and the airfare is significantly less than a trip to Africa. The added benefit of Costa Rica and Belize can be a rest from the jungle at the many pristine beaches.

Asia is becoming a top choice for families seeking a holiday that is both interesting and affordable. Beijing, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are not only interesting and family friendly cities but they are inexpensive compared to western cities. The Great Wall and the temples of Thailand are impressive and so much more interesting in person. Sites in these big cities allow your family to enjoy the culture but also retire to your comfortable hotel room so your exploration is not too stressful.

European cities offer the best combination of family-friendly and culture however there is a higher price tag. Museums and tourist attractions in Europe offer family discounts and sipping an espresso after climbing the Eiffel Tour has a big draw for parents while keeping the children amused.

Since international travel requires passports and generally long flights, you may want to consider destinations that are closer to home. Hawaii, for example, offers sun, beach and hiking so while you’re sipping your Mai Tai the kids can swim at the pool. As an added attraction there is no language barrier and flight discounts are often available to make your vacation more affordable.

It’s often a compromise to find the vacation that suits your entire family but a holiday with children doesn’t have to be the tried-and-true theme park. With some research and planning, exotic destinations that cater to families can be found to delight both you and your children.

Helpful Ideas to Have An Enjoyable Family Vacation

Saturday, December 29th, 2007
Nathalie Fiset asked:

Vacations can spell enjoyment and stress at the same time. The time of planning, booking and hazards of trips are just few troubles one may encounter along the way. Nevertheless, one should consider enjoying and the fun side of it rather than divulge on the pressure that can ruin all the plans and preparation.

Family vacation requires a lot of preparation considering that you should satisfy your own desires and likes alongside the wants of your toddlers, teens and spouse. Consolidating the ideas they have and the thrills they want to gain are various points that should be dealt upon for a vacation to be fruitful.

Here are some ideas you can consider when planning to go on a family vacation:

1.Why not go on a beach vacation? It is not easy to please all members of the family and resorts can be a good option. There are beaches where multitude of activities can be done like jet skiing, surfing, and cruising which you and your teens can enjoy. There are also resorts with kids’ pools and slides for your toddlers. Prioritize the enjoyment of the family but check on the safety of the place and the water specifically.

2.The family can also go on a cruise vacation. You can free yourself from planning and other activities because there are packages provided by ships and other cruise lines. All you have to do is choose among the packages and be present on the set date of your floating vacation. Cruise activities include spas, casinos and live entertainment for teens and adults. Youngsters are offered with kids’ activities so nobody is left bored and idle. Check on the medical facilities of the cruise lines to ensure your health while on the cruise.

3.If your family enjoys a country lifestyle, you can have a family ranch vacation. There are ranches which welcome people and offer vacation packages. There are those which are near rivers where you can do rafting and engage in a river trip. The family can also involve in ranch tour, join lessons about horseback riding and take care of horses and other animals such as cattle. A special set of activities for children are designed to get them busy while on the ranch.

4.Adventure vacation is not a bad idea either. Adventures suck as kayaking, sailing, hiking, canoeing, camping, hunting and a whole lot more can excite all the members of the family. Nature tripping is a good adventure to give you and your family fun and learning at the same time.

5.Theme parks can also be a good choice. You can choose Universal Studios which offer an array of incredible rides and attractions. Universal Studios is a theme park and movie studio in one. You can also tour and watch real working films and scenes from your much loved movies. Walt Disney also offers an Animal Kingdom Theme Park and a lot more. Children and adults alike can also enjoy the Disney resorts and other wonderful areas in the Walt Disney.

6.For holiday season, the family can try a snow vacation. Snow can make your vacation a lot different! There are numerous resorts in California, New Hampshire or Vermont which offers country skiing, dog sledding, ice fishing, ice skating, sliding, ice climbing and other exciting activities. There are also schools accepting enrollees for ski lessons; or you can simply enjoy the snow by making snow man, angels, etc.

7.Volunteer vacations. Your family can try the unique but worthwhile volunteer work with helpful humanitarian and nature causes. There are global volunteer works which cater to those groups who wanted to engage in charitable projects. There are those located in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Africa, and much much more. Projects vary from animal welfare, health and safety, education, community development, children’s issue, environment and nature or poverty. Be sure that family members all compromised with this kind of vacation because laborious work and sacrifice are involved here rather than relaxation.

There are several more ideas one family can think of while planning for their much awaited vacation. One family member differs with another so careful compromises and decision must be made to make sure that all will be satisfied and happy. A good vacation does not depend on its longevity; rather the measure is the quality of time spent with the family.

Ecotourism Knowledge

Monday, December 24th, 2007
Tiya asked:

There are two basic requirements for ecotourism: 1) a basic understanding of ecological issues and 2) a conscience.

Let’s get one thing clear: there is a lot of emphasis in definition. Ecotourism is a novel concept, an effort to make the global-rambler politically correct and free of guilt. No, Traveling to Johannesburg for the World Summit on Sustainable Development doesn’t constitute ecotourism. Neither does merely ogling at tigers from the safely of an elephant’s back. Or, for that matter, recalling William Wordsworth’s ‘Solitary Reaper’ at the sight of a solitary lass collecting fodder in a protected forest. In fact, think tanks and serious-looking polity-mongers are passionate about debating the syntax and punctuation of the most complete definition. Kind of like that sustainable development debate that we all know but don’t want to talk about.

Ecotourism, more than any other form of travel, demands that the tourist be able to reconcile the inner journey with the outer one. In simpler terms, the joy you get out of the environs should be shared with all that makes the surroundings what they are-the plants, animals, ‘local’ people, everything. Another fact that you need to bear in mind is that ecotourism is different from-and distinct part of- nature tourism. Nature tourism doesn’t require you to take care of your own garbage or follow a strict code of conduct in a forest or worry about the per capita emission of carbon dioxide from your flight. An important difference is ‘responsibility’: an eco-tourist has to be responsible for leaving no trail of the ‘tour’; is expected to leave a very small ‘ecological footprint’, prefer-ably none at all. This is not quite what the hospitality industry is known for, but that’s where the times are headed (look at the number of ‘nature’ channels we have on television today).

Blame it on Rio for hosting the 1992 summit. That’s when things started acquiring varied shades of green. Now, everybody and his brother in the travel and tourism trade offer eco-friendly holidays. And there are very few ways to tell a real ecotourism venture from a fraudulent one-the all sound equally nice nice goodie goodie. So why can’t they develop a certification regime, you may ask. A recent study showed that there are about 100 certification and eco-labeling schemes around the world. They are uncoordinated and lead to a lot of confusion. So the question is: when it comes to getting the most out of your hard-earned holiday and savings, does eco-tourism measure up?

Yes, sort of. There are several eco-tourism ventures across the world that not only provide that much-needed break you’ve been looking for but also an experience that might include a true sense of being in the

Wilderness (with basic amenities at hand). Another is viewing wildlife in an atmosphere that is more natural than the run-of-the-mill ride on a jeep or on the back of an elephant. Most ecotourists are educated, sensitive people. There is every chance that you will be among people you would like to interact with and befriend. Most of all, there is the satisfaction that you have traveled in a way that will ensure that the natural environs stay healthy for your grandchildren. Now some statistics to drive home the point.

The World Tourism Organization estimates that ‘nature tourism’ accounts for 20 per cent of all international travel. It is the fastest growing sector in tourism growing at 10-30 per cent growth in the tourism industry overall. It is the biggest foreign exchange earner for South Africa, Kenya, Ecuador and Costa Rica. The Maldives earns $2.3 million each year from just shark-watching. Estimates show that each living shark there fetches $3,300 each year; all the products from a dead Grey Reef shark add up to$32. There is a growing realization that a part of this revenue should be ploughed back into the protection and maintenance of the star attractions. That’s where ecotourism come in. calculations by the international Ecotourism Society show that experienced ecotourism are willing to spend more than general tourists.

So where do you plan to go? For the international ecotourists, favored destinations include the US, Peru, Brazil, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, Nepal, Kenya and South Africa.

The Best Adventure Vacations

Monday, December 3rd, 2007
Kimi Garcia asked:

Consider going on an adventure vacation to truly lift yourself out of the rut of average holidays and the roads well trodden. Vacations run the gamut from the relaxing to the exciting. Sometimes the excitement that you get out of an average vacation may lack the bite you’d expected. It’s time to look to new avenues to get more out of your vacation than the usual holiday belly and a handful of cheap souvenirs.

Wildlife safaris top the list of adventure vacations. Though certainly ubiquitous in Africa, it is also available in many locations such as Alaska, Ecuador, Croatia, Costa Rica, Peru and a few others. What could be more adventurous than spending the night in a tent under the same sky as lions, leopards, and rhinos? The last thing you hear before you doze of would be the deep throated growls denoting a feeding frenzy and the first thing you see in the early dawn might be pug marks just outside your tent.

No adventure vacation is complete without a spot of bungee jumping or tandem skydiving. Conquering that extreme fear that paralyses, you go for it, and come away a stronger, more confident person than the erstwhile quivering mass of nerves. This should surely spur you on to more exciting things in life. Sometimes climbing a mountain gets you the same ecstatic feeling as falling off an aircraft while skydiving. As you eventually scale the heights and stand on a peak, you know you’ve conquered more than a mountain. Adventure vacations have their moments.

Adventure vacations do not have to be confined to the land or air. You can take it to the water as you go swimming with sharks, jet boating, or even deep sea fishing with gritty real life fishermen for whom rough seas are simply a minor annoyance. For pure, unadulterated fright, there’s nothing to beat whitewater rafting. This sport has its moments of sheer panic that deliver quite an adrenalin surge to your adventure vacation. White water rafting vacations are quite the rage in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US and many European countries. The Grand Canyon in the US is quite a popular venue for this activity and makes for a spectacular adventure vacation in combination with the other attractions available at this natural wonder.

At least for some, an adventure vacation would be visiting a totally alien culture where no one speaks your language. Everything from the food, the weather, public transport, and the law of the land would be something you have no idea about or had just read about. You are in for an adventure vacation of the senses that can deal lusty blows just as surely as whiplash from a bad bungee dive.
