George Wood asked:

You often hear people talking about adventure travel and that makes you wonder as to what adventure travel actually is. It is something by which u can add adventure and fun to your life. So before going for an adventure travel, you must know what it is. Adventure travels does not mean that you have to endanger your life for your trip to be called adventurous!

The term adventurous is a concept that is not defined physically when you talk about adventure travel. This concept is defined psychologically. Different people have different definitions of adventure. Earlier adventure travels meant going abroad or just traveling to different places. However, its definition has changed today. Adventure travel is when you experience an event rather than being a mere spectator in your travels. It is actually living in the present and experiencing the place and not just sight seeing.

Adventure is different for everyone. What may appear adventurous to you could be totally boring for someone. And that is reason that there are so many options available if you want to go for adventure travels. You can choose the one which suits you, and more importantly the one which excites you! White water rafting or kayaking can be fun for someone. On the other hand camping in an interesting place can de defined as adventurous by some people. Hot air balloon ride may sound boring to you but it can be the perfect adventure travel for some.

Adventure travel is when you get yourself involved in an enthralling experience. It includes boating, kayaking, hiking, sky diving, mountain climbing, scuba diving, sailing, bicycling and much more! You should not indulge yourself into any form of adventure travels in which you are not comfortable. The level of risk in your travel is defined by you just like term adventure is defined individually. Adventure travel is getting yourself engaged into a new experience but make sure that you are totally comfortable in what you are doing.

You can choose a tour if you wish to go for adventure travels. Such adventure travel tours are available for couples and families. But do not worry in case you are single, adventure tours are also available for you. So you can make a plan for an adventure tour. You can choose a tour which suits you best. These tours usually have two groups of people. One group goes on sight seeing and visits their areas of interest, whereas the other group involves itself in adventurous activities. Of course the type of activity depends on the tour which you have selected.

It is a misconception that adventure travel is only for the younger people. You can indulge yourself into it irrespective of your age. Adventure travels is enjoyed by one and all. It is not uncommon to see an old couple getting engaged in adventurous activities. Having worked hard throughout their life, they want o experience something new and enthralling. You can meet people from all quarters of life in adventure travel. Now, meeting different people from different backgrounds can itself be very adventurous!

You can choose an adventure travels which excites you. It can simply be going out of the country to some distant place or maybe engaging yourself in bunjee jumping. Whichever activity you choose, just make sure that you are comfortable in it, for there will be no fun and no adventure if you are not comfortable!

Bruce Haxton asked:

Planning your travels is an exciting experience, but it can also be daunting. So many things to organise, so many things to pack; it can feel like you’ve started climbing mountains already! Before you start trying to squeeze everything into your suitcase, here’s a list to help you sort out the essentials…

1. The passport

The very first thing you have to think about when you start planning your travels is your passport. It may sound obvious but as you can’t go anywhere without it, it’s the most important thing, so even if you know your passport doesn’t expire until 2012 – check again! And remember to check the entrance requirements of the countries you’re travelling to, some countries won’t let you in if you have less than a year left on your passport.

2. The visa

Travelling to around the globe comes with certain restrictions. So before you travel, it’s important that you find out what they are. Some countries will require you to get a visa before travel and these should be applied for as far in advance as possible.

They won’t know your travel plans as well as you do, so you’ll need to tell them whether you’re planning to enter the country once, or if you’re going to travel out of the country and then back in again. Every visa application is different, but it’s easy to find the information you need at specific government websites, you can also contact your travel company for advice.

3. Stay healthy

You need to be fit enough to trek through rainforests and speed off on safari, so your health has to be a big priority. It’s important that you visit your doctor before you travel. If you’re going anywhere even vaguely tropical, you’ll need a few jabs before you go. And if you have any medical conditions, you’ll need to find out the best way to deal with them while you’re away. Remember, some countries will have different opinions on certain so it’s worth checking what you can and can’t take before you go.

4. Travel warnings

Even if politics and world affairs have never bothered you before, knowing what’s going on in the world is more important than ever when you’re planning your travels. So in the months leading up to your trip, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the travel warnings. You’ll find them on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.

And just to be extra safe, it’s also a good idea to register for their LOCATE service. It helps to keep the embassy informed, so if anything happens while you’re away, they can get in touch as soon as possible.

5. Travel insurance

Another one on the main essentials list; travel insurance. Important whether you’re travelling on a budget or not; the cost of getting medical treatment abroad can be staggering. But with the right travel insurance, you’ll be covered. There are loads of insurers out there for you to choose from, how much cover you’ll need depends on what you’ll be doing. But remember, if you’re taking a gap year or a career break, you’ll need specialist insurance.

6. The language

Different cultures are what makes travelling exciting but language barriers can make travelling difficult if you’re on your own. It never hurts to invest a little time in learning the language. It’ll be much easier to interact with the locals and become part of the community if you understand a little of the lingo. There are loads of language courses on offer so you can do this before you go, or start taking a course while you’re away and really dive into cultural immersion!

7. The budget

Firstly it’s important to make sure you’ve got enough cash to last the whole trip and a little more should you need it. If you haven’t, then looking at earning while you travel could be a good option. If you need a steady income then a TEFL qualification could be just what you need. It could help you get paid teaching work abroad. And the extra travel money isn’t the only benefit – you’ll also be helping people to learn the English language.

8. Packing essentials

Every travel experience is different, so what one person needs will be different to what another needs. Once you’ve booked your trip sit down and think about what you’ll need. It’ll depend on the climate of the countries your visiting, the accommodation you’re staying in and the activities you’re planning to get involved in.

Sounds simple but; make a list, tick off each item and get a bag that it’ll all fit into. Remember that bag might be on you back for long periods of time so make sure you don’t take too much – you’ll soon get tired of carrying a heavy bag, filled with things you don’t need.

It’s not a ready made solution but it may help to take the stress out of planning you trip. Which means you can spend less time worrying and more time being excited!

Will asked:

Of late, regular travel has become predictable and boring. With falling airfares and the resulting increase of package tours becoming the most common way of vacationing, traveling has become uninspiring and monotonous.

That feeling of adventure that traveling is supposed to evoke has become jaded. This is what has given rise to a new form of travel these days – Adventure Travel! Adventure travel is not only popular with the adrenaline filled youth, but is increasingly being taken up by people of older generations too, because of greater fitness, health, leisure time and economic prosperity.

There really is very little else in the world that can be more thrilling than adventure travel, because it primarily involves risk taking. When you get out there, you finally start experiencing life at its edgiest – which is part of its excitement. It is not hard to figure out why.

Adventure travel usually takes us into close proximity with Mother Nature at her rawest best. It also often introduces us to new peoples and cultures, thus broadening our perspective about the world we live in.

For those who really are into hardcore adventure travel at its adrenaline pumping best, there are many options, such as scaling the fourteen thousand feet craggy mountains of Colorado or the even loftier snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan range, bicycling along the route of Tour de France, or trying out a new heart-rate pumping adventure sport like white water rafting in treacherous, rolling icy waters.

You may choose to try parasailing into the updrafts from vertiginous cliffs, bungee jump off precarious toe-holds, or ski down hair-raisingly steep mountain sides. If it is thrills you are looking for, there is no dearth of them.

However, not all adventure travel need comprise of spine-tingling feats, defying death. For the gentler bent of mind, there are trips you can take which can be equally exciting and stimulating, without much danger involved in them.

For example, you could float up above the African veld in a hot air balloon to watch lions stalking their prey below, or take a walking tour of the ancient Angkor Wat temple smothered in the Cambodian jungles, or hike through the forest trails in the Amazonian jungles experiencing the exotic wild life there like the Caymans snoozing on the banks of the rivers or the brightly hued parrots squawking in the canopy of branches overhead.

Some of the other adventure travel sites include eco-trekking through the rain forests of the Caribbean in order to get up close to the insects, birds and animals that inhabit it. You could take camping trips to various exotic locales still off the tourist map and learn about the local people – their food habits, costumes, language and culture by actually interrelating with them.

Or perhaps you would like something more solitary and gentle. If so, there are still unspoiled beaches that are virtually deserted and exist for you to immerse yourself in the sun-splashed splendor of yellow sands and azure seas.

Or, if you want something a little livelier, how about surfing off the coast of Costa Rica? All of these provide a way of being a part of adventure travel, without it getting too hazardous.

Chris Jensen asked:

Usually people get thrilled about their forthcoming holiday and in the excitement go through a lot of material on the internet but still keep worrying about the actual travel. No need to be anxious if remember some basic factors to take care of before you start. Here they are.

- Do research How much you know about the world doesn’t matter; you should to do your research concerning your tour. It is extremely important to collect all the likely information about the destination you going to visit together with type of weather, travel permit fundamentals, events and lodging.

- Insurance Coverage Traveling overseas is very interesting but there is all the possibility that something might go wrong somewhere against your expectations. It is a must that you have your travel insurance ready with you to take care of unexpected emergencies during your travel. Ensure that the travel insurance will take care of the medical expenses along with others like your fun activities and luggage etc.

- Fitness Everybody want to be fit and fine during their holiday trip. Make sure that you visit your doctor and make sure that you are in good health to undertake a long travel and adventure. Plan this at least eight weeks before that trip. Also ask the doctor and get information about the destination country’s health care system and the preventive methods if any to take when you travel to that country.

- Passports and Visas The basic requirement for an overseas trip is your passport. Study your passport and visa and be familiar with all the information that is in there about you, your country and its laws. Some places has laws that will need the passport valid for at least six months after you arrive the place.

- Xerox copies Your passport, tickets, visas, travel insurance, driving license etc. should have enoght number of photocopies. Keep them away from the original papers. To be more smart about it have some of your friends who travel with you to keep some of those copies to reduce the risk of losing them in case you lose you luggage.

- Money Do not rely upon any particular currency. Always take with you, travelers checks, credit cards and some cash. Carry sufficient money to meet any unforeseen expenses. Always distribute the money in different places in your luggage an pockets. Never keep it at the same place together.

- Travel information Let your family and friends know about your entire trip and the exact travel details. Regularly update the family and friends about your whereabouts so that any time in case of any emergency they can reach you.

- Local Customs and rules Gather information about the culture and rules of the place you visit. Make sure that you have with you appropriate clothing that will go with the culture and laws of the country you visit. When visiting a place it is compulsory to give reverence to its society and laws even if they appear different and strange to you.
